laser hair removal |
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
The long-lasting, safe way to remove unwanted, unsightly hair, treatment
with FDA-approved diode lasers disables hair follicles' ability to produce new
growth, but more than one treatment may be needed to disable follicles that
subsequently enter the growth phase. The treatment lasts from a few minutes to
an hour, can be carried out under topical anaesthesia if required, and patients
suffer only minor after-effects that may include swelling and redness, but you
can face the world immediately.

| botox® (botulinum toxin) |
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
Botox® is produced
from purified botulinum toxin and is used to soften facial lines and wrinkles.
It has been safely and successfully used by physicians for many years and is
most commonly used for forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines, but it is
now also being used in other facial areas as well: it has been quite successful
in treating facial wrinkles around the mouth and neck bands.
Botox® is injected into the muscles in these areas and works by weakening the muscles, lessening
their ability to contract. Although the application affects the muscles'
ability to move, it does not impair sensory function in any way. The results of
a Botox® treatment
can last for up to four to six months, but repeat treatments are necessary for
maintenance. Studies have shown, however, that individuals who have multiple
treatments enjoy longer-lasting results.
Botox® treatments
are not recommended for patients who experience any of the following conditions:
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
- Myasthenia gravis
- Neuromuscular disease
- Allergy to human albumin
- Allergy to botulinum toxin
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have consumed alcohol in the previous 48 hours
- Have taken aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication in the previous two weeks
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
Patients should not lie down for four hours after the treatment and should also
not massage the treated muscles, as this will spread the
Botox ® to the muscles surrounding the eyes. It is, however,
recommended that the patient exercises the treated muscles every 15 minutes for
the first hour after treatment, which allows the
Botox® to attach to active muscles more effectively. The treated areas
should take between five to 10 days to soften and, although side effects are
rare and no long-term problems have been reported, a patient may experience one
of more of the following symptoms:
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
- Mild bruising
- Temporary nausea
- Temporary headaches (some patients have reported the temporary disappearance of
tension and migraine headaches, and these reports are being studied at present)
- Double vision, although extremely rare, has been reported and can last for between three to six months.
- Drooping of the eyebrows and eyelids, although also extremely rare, can last for between three to six months
- An injection that does not take (when this occurs a touch-up injection is required and a treatment of this kind may cost between 25% to 50% of the cost
of the original treatment)
Cosmetic denervation with Botox®
is a simple, safe procedure that can dramatically soften facial expression
lines, leaving you looking younger and more refreshed . without surgery, scars
any significant recovery time.

Restylane® and Perlane® injections
Plastic surgery, Cosmetic surgery, Cape Town, South Africa
Harnessing nature itself to rejuvenate the skin, the products developed by
Sweden's Q-Med Esthetics use one of the body's own natural materials, called
hyaluronic acid, to bind water in your skin . lifting the skin and giving it new firmness.
One of very few substances that is identical in all species and tissue types,
Q-Med's hyaluronic acid is unique in that this stabilised, biodegradable range
of patented gels is produced under carefully controlled conditions from
non-animal sources, eliminating the possibility of disease transmission or
allergic reactions in patients who are sensitive to common foods, such as beef,
chicken and eggs.
The crystal-clear gels are injected - individually or in combination - into the
skin areas requiring treatment to bind water, producing a new lift and firmness
that lasts for many months, compared with only a few days or weeks at most for
other, non-stabilised products. Clinical trials of
Restylane® in the USA showed better results than competing
collagen-based products in six times more patients and, apart from local-area
related reactions (e.g. redness and tenderness for around a week), no cases of
serious treatment-related side-effects have occurred during the study.
Q-Med's NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) product range includes
Restylane® for wrinkle correction and lip enhancement, and
Restylane Fine Lines® for correcting thin, superficial lines around the
eyes and mouth, forehead lines and moth lines. The third product in the Tissue
Tailored Concept range, Perlane® shapes facial contours such as cheeks and
chins, correcting deep folds, and is also used for volume augmentation of the lips.
The effectiveness of these long-lasting treatments depends on many factors that
include age, skin type, lifestyle and muscle activity, as well as the injection
techniques themselves. As the gel particles break down - disappearing unnoticed
from the body - they are replaced by water and the less concentrated the gel
becomes, the more water it is able to bind, allowing ample time for maintenance
treatments. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment after between
six to 12 months, with lip-treatment follow-ups after six months.
Depending on the treatment required, a treatment session - under local
anaesthesia, if necessary - often takes less than 30 minutes and produces a
healthy, natural looking smooth skin within days.
Common, injection-related reactions, which disappear after a day or two in the
case of injections into the skin and after about a week in the case of lips,
include swelling, redness, minor pain, itching and discolouration at the
implant site. Other reactions are rare, occurring in one in every 2000 treated
patients, and are thought to be of hypersensitivity in nature; these usually
consist of swelling at the implant site, sometimes affecting the surrounding
tissue; rare cases of redness, tenderness and acne-like formations have also
been reported, but all these symptoms generally disappear within a fortnight.
Restylane®, Restylane Fine Lines® and Perlane® offer a long-lasting, natural enhancement
of the skin, along with the all-important flexibility that leaves you in charge
of your looks.
